diploma or GED - Healthcare Provider BLS Certification - State of
New Mexico EMT Intermediate licensure Preferred Qualifications: -
Healthcare related work or volunteer experience All EMT
Intermediate Duties and Responsibilities: - Implements MD orders
under supervision of an RN as allowed under this purpose
description. The following list of skills and procedures is
included: - 1. Splint application - 2. Wound irrigation and
preparation for suturing - 3. 12 lead EKGs - 4. Foley catheter
insertion - 5. Venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining blood
samples - 6. Vascular access; inserting a peripheral intravascular
catheter or intraosseous device - 7. Administration of 0.9% NaCl
flush as needed - 8. Initiate and administer IV fluids as ordered
under the direction on an RN or Provider - 9. Point of care (POC)
testing including glucose, urine dip, strep, and pregnancy testing,
i-Stat testing of venous and arterial blood samples and blood
alcohol testing via breathalyzer analysis - 10. Performs daily
duties of POC quality control checks, stocking, and temperature
checks as outlined on the Tech Daily Assignment sheet - 11. Upon
initiation by an RN or Provider, application of restraint or
seclusion in an emergency situation in order to ensure the
immediate physical safety of patients, staff or visitors when other
less restrictive interventions have been deemed ineffective - 12.
Act as an observer for a restrained/secluded patient or AT Risk
patient requiring observation - 13. Performance of CPR as indicated
and/or directed, including BVM ventilation and chest compressions -
Defibrillation as directed by the ED code team using an AED -
Responds as member of ED code team to patients requiring
resuscitation in other departments on the first floor of the
hospital for the purposes of performing CPR and establishing IV
access - Performs as a member of the trauma resuscitation team -
Spinal immobilization and vehicle extraction for patients
self-presenting to the ED with suspected spinal injury - Set up
suture trays and central line trays according to sterile procedure
- Set up of rapid infuser, chest drainage systems, and suction
equipment - Provides patient education and training in use of
immobilization devices as well as ambulation assistive devices -
Performs intake assessment based on current ED Intake Criteria on
patients presenting through ED lobby. Identifies need to call
Charge RN or Provider for emergent patients. Other intake duties
include: - 1. Performance of 12 lead EKGs within 10 minutes of
arrival for patients presenting with chest pain - 2. POC testing as
indicated - 3. Repeat vital signs per policy on patients waiting in
the ED lobby - 4. Performs suture removals - Receives and documents
EMS patient reports from the field, advises the Charge RN and/or
Provider of patient condition, and whether the patient meets
trauma, stroke, STEMI, or sepsis alert criteria - Acts as a patient
and family advocate recognizing changes in patient condition and
reports this information to an RN or Provider as indicated -
Performs Legal Blood Alcohol blood draws at the request of Law
Enforcement personnel - Documents all procedures and patient care
interventions performed in the patient care record - Acts in
capacity as department unit secretary - Facilitating transportation
of stable patients with diagnostic procedures, admissions, and
discharges - Assists with the transportation of patients to and
from the helipad - Assists with lifting and transfer of patients -
When acting as Lead Tech, ensures that all daily tech duties are
assigned and completed - Reports to the charge nurse or ED Clinical
Coordinators any broken or malfunctioning equipment - Utilizes
universal precautions and infection control procedures according to
hospital policy - Cleans patient rooms and patient monitoring
equipment between patient care episodes - Acts as a member of the
procedural sedation team - Removal of NG tubes under supervision or
direction of an RN or Provider - Administration and evaluation of
the following medications under ED RN of provider Direction: - 1.
Oral Glucose preparations - 2. Aspirin PO for adults with suspected
cardiac chest pain - 3. Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen PO for pediatric
or adult patients with fever - 4. Albuterol, Ipratropium, or
Xopenex via nebulized inhaled administration - 5. Activated
Charcoal PO - 6. Naloxone bysubcut, IM, or intranasal
administration - 7. Epinephrine 1:1,000 SQ or IM no single dose
greater than 0.3 ml for anaphylaxis and known asthmatics in severe
respiratory distress - 8. Epinephrine 1:10,000 IV for cardiac
arrest based on current dosage for adult and pediatric patients -
9. Anti-emetic medications, PO, IM or IV - 10. Diphenhydramine PO
or IV for allergic reactions or dystonic reactions - 11.
Corticosteroids PO, IM, or IV - 12. Lidocaine 2% preservative and
epinephrine free for intraosseous device use on adult patients for
pain control - Each employee is responsible for implementing

Effectiveness, and Stewardship - Other duties as assigned Physical
Demands and Environmental Work Conditions: - Must be able to lift
fifty (50) pounds - Must be able to proficiently perform all manual
duties described above - Must be able to ambulate without
restriction - Must be able to use computer mouse and keyboard for
documenting in the patient care record - Must pass colorblindness
test as defined by lab testing regulatory requirements
